Los Angeles Maps

Thanks to its location close to the Mexican border, there is a huge population of Mexicans living and working in Los Angeles, and this has led to the city offering a great selection of Mexican restaurants where visitors and locals alike can enjoy a taste of food from south of the border.

As well as restaurants in Los Angeles that offer traditional Mexican dishes including nachos, chilli, and fajitas, there are also plenty of places where traditional Californian Seafood menus have been combined with a flavor of Mexico to give diners a choice to enjoy a range of spicy treats to eat.

In this guide, we have selected some of the best places to enjoy authentic Mexican dining in Los Angeles. Many of the Mexican restaurants featured here are very popular at the weekend, and on special holiday occasions, so you might need to book in advance if you fancy dining there on a particular day.

Border Grill Santa Monica

Just off the beachfront in Santa Monica, the Border Grill offers a range of delectable Mexican food including plenty of spicy meals like their Achiote marinated pork steaks. The Border Grill is famous for its margaritas, and has a daily happy hour between 5-7pm where drinks are just half price.

El Tepeyac

El Tepeyac in East Los Angeles is a casual Mexican Restaurant that is a favorite with the local community, and offers some of the best authentic Mexican food in the city. Turn up midweek and enjoy Mariachi music along with free flowing Sangria and margaritas to get you in the mood.

La Serenata Gourmet

This relatively new Mexican Restaurant can be found just off the coast in West LA close to the beach in Westwood. It offers up-market Mexican dining with a heavy emphasis on refinement and top quality seafood ingredients. The chilli stuffed prawns are highly recommended.

Monte Alban

Monte Alban may not have the most inspiring location in the centre of a retail park on Santa Monica Boulevard, or be particularly expensive or classy, but it is one of the finest Mexican restaurants in the whole of California, and is full most evenings because of its popularity with the Mexican community. If you don't mind eating late or early you can usually get in, and it is well worth trying in order to enjoy their famous Chilli Con Carne.
