Back in 1955, when Walt Disney opened his first theme park, Disneyland in Anaheim, he probably didn't know that it would still be attracting millions of visitors every year more than half a century later. The longevity, and continued popularity of Disneyland is due in part to its location within easy reach of the centre of Los Angeles, and also thanks to the frequent improvements and redevelopments that keep Disneyland at the forefront of leisure in Los Angeles.
Mickey Mouse, Snow White and Donald Duck
Walt Disney saw Disneyland as a place where all children could come and have their dreams come true, a place where they could meet and interact with the stars of his cartoons such as Mickey Mouse, Snow White, and Donald Duck, and where his family centric view of the world could be fully realised for the pleasure of all those who visited.
Disneyland is a feast for the imagination, a place where the real world and the world of cartoons can be blended effortlessly in the various distinct themed areas of the park which all boast their own identity and unique selection of rides and shows for visitors of all ages.
The Magic Kingdom
The Magic Kingdom is the oldest part of the park, a place where the magic of the classic Disney movies is displayed. Here you can meet Snow White, and relive the classic moments from the films. In Main Street USA, visitors can get a taste of small town America as it was in the 1950s, while the nearby Adventureland is home to many of the Disneyland theme park rides including the Indiana Jones Adventure and the unforgettable Jungle Cruise.
The favourite area for many visitors both young and old is in Frontierland, where you can see the animatronic Pinewood Indians, ride on the runaway train and watch a cowboy show.
Parades featuring original Disney music, and the main characters from the movies on floats and take place throughout the day and night along Main Street USA. These extravagant and colourful spectacles include plenty of music and entertainment, and will surely delight children of all ages and create a truly memorable experience of the Disneyland Park for anyone who sees them.
Disneyland Los Angeles is a place that Walt Disney built to entertain the children of the world, but he had an eye on their parents too, so as it says on the gates to disneyland, in the words of Uncle Walt himself, "To all who come to this happy place - welcome!"
