Since the early 1900s, one place has become the heart of the worldwide entertainment industry. Hollywood, once a sleepy town on the fringes of Los Angeles has become the most glamorous place on earth, a place where the imagination of a few people is translated into movies, TV shows, and music that is enjoyed around the world.

From the back lots and movie studios of Hollywood, the USA has exported a wealth of culture to the world and this in turn has attracted people from all corners of the planet to come to Hollywood in order to live the dream and hopefully be discovered as an actor and actress to join the hallowed few as true stars.

Although much of the magic of Hollywood takes place in the editing suites and inside the processors of computers these days, there are many attractions in the city that make it an essential stop for almost anyone.

The Hollywood Sign

The iconic Hollywood sign dates back almost a century, and although much parodied, and copied, it remains one of the most immediately recognisable and evocative sights of Los Angeles. Although you can take a trip up into the hills to see it up close, the best views are undoubtedly those available from Hollywood Boulevard.

Homes of the Stars Tours

There are many companies that offer tours through Beverley Hills and Bel Air that will let you see the massive mansions and gated communities where Hollywood's best known stars live. There are various options on offer, but all follow essentially the same format of a coach ride through the hills having the mansions pointed out to you, and while a little kitsch for some tastes, they are still great fun.

Movie Studios

One of the best ways to get a feel for the movie making process is a tour of one of the Hollywood movie studios. Universal Studios has embraced the tourist dollar more than most others, and aside from access to the sets and the chance to rub shoulders with movie stars in the cafeterias, they have also built a number of rides.

Other Attractions

Simply walking around Hollywood will give you the chance to see many of the city's most iconic sights including the famous Graumann's Chinese Theatre where many movie premiers take place, as well as the walk of fame where Hollywood stars of the past and present have stars dedicated to them installed in the pavement as testament to their achievements on the silver screen.
